Hale Wins by Inverted Triangle, Bellator Light Heavyweights Advance

by Michael David Smith

In 2009, Toby Imada put Bellator Fighting Championships on the map by defeating Jorge Masvidal with an incredible inverted triangle choke submission, a highlight that became a viral video and was widely regarded as the best submission of the year in mixed martial arts.

Now lightning has struck twice for Bellator.

On Saturday night's Bellator card, Richard Hale used the same move -- the inverted triangle -- to choke Nik Fekete into unconsciousness. It was a sensational highlight, and exactly the kind of thing Bellator needs to attract attention on its new television home, MTV2.

MMA Fighter Sergio Salcido Luna Gunned Down at Mexico-US Border

Sergio Salcido Luna was another fighter trying to earn his way into better opportunities through hard work. In addition to training, Luna, nicknamed "Suave" in his fight career, worked for a San Diego beverage company, and was apparently on his way to the job just prior to 3 am on Monday morning when a gunman at the San Ysidro border crossing near Tijuana, Mexico, opened fire, killing him along with passenger Kevin Joel Romero.

According to area news reports, Luna and Romero were riding in a late model Mazda B2500 pickup truck and waiting to cross the border into the U.S. when they were gunned down by an unknown assailant who shot them with a .9 mm caliber gun.

Play ball! MMA coming to a ballpark near you

Boxing had some epic fights over the years at baseball stadiums.

Yankee Stadium was host to some classics all the way through the 70's and most recently, Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto scrapped in the New York outfield.

In 2010, MMA has started to take the lead in the fight game. Check around, a mixed martial arts events may be hitting a ballyard near you. We found three events scheduled in 2011 at minor league parks.

Former UFC fighter and "Ultimate Fighter" alum Edwin DeWees is headlining "Rumble at the Ranch" at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Az..

DeWees (36-14-1) beat Gideon Ray and lost to Patrick Cote on TUF 4. He was officially 0-2 in the UFC with losses to Rich Franklin and Chris Leben. He's also been in the cage with veterans like Joe Stevenson, Frank Trigg, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Jorge Rivera.

DeWees against Chuck Huus is the main event on an Apr. 23 card. DeWees, 28, has been a little inactive the last two years, but he did fight recently in Finland suffering a loss to Marcus Vanttinen on Mar. 12.

The Lexington Legends put a cage on the infield for "Bluegrass Bragging Rights" on May 15. The Lakewood (N.J.) Blueclaws are hosting "Fights Under the Lights" on June 23.

Get out to the park for some fisticuffs and grappling. In most cases, it's as low as $25 a ticket for some good, wholesome family fun.

Dana White Supports Overtime to Take Draws Out of the UFC

by Michael David SmithDana WhiteThe UFC has already had two pay-per-view main events end in draws this year, with neither fighter getting his hand raised in the Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard fight at UFC 125, or the B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch fight at UFC 127.

UFC President Dana White wasn't satisfied with those decisions, and he'd like to do something about it: Add overtime to UFC fights.

Talking to Stephan Bonnar on The Ultimate Fighter Aftermath, White was asked whether he would favor an overtime round for fights that end in draws, just as the fights on The Ultimate Fighter have. White said he thinks that's a good idea.

Trash talk is gone for humbled Hardy

Dan Hardy's a savvy guy. Heading into each one his fights, the British bomber usually provides us with some awesome promotional fodder. Not this time. Coming off a rough knockout loss against Carlos Condit and facing a guy he actually respects, Hardy refused to unleash his customary verbal warfare.

"I guess you could say I was humbled. I was more angered than humbled, though. I got annoyed at myself, I was like you wasted an opportunity there, you let a guy take it away from you and you never deserved it. And that was the talking I got for myself," Hardy said on the Ultimate Fight Night 24 conference call.

Hardy, a 28-year-old Brit who splits his training time between the U.K. and U.S., is slated to faced Anthony Johnson at Ultimate Fight Night 24 (Spike 10 p.m. ET/PT) in Seattle on Saturday.

Hardy (23-8, 4-2 UFC) fell victim to a nasty left hook from Carlos Condit, dropping his second straight fight in just 4:27. The mohawked-Brit was too relaxed heading into that fight at UFC 120.

"I was just little overly confident. That's all it was. I was, you know ? I let the moment get to me and let myself confidence get to me up. I didn't have any respect for the guy. I just kind of let myself open, not thinking that I'd pay the price," Hardy said. "That was all what it was really. It was a silly mistake and it was regrettable, but, you know, I wouldn't take it back because, you know, it's got me where I'm at right now. And I'm in a much better place now than I was then."

With two straight losses and one of the deepest divisions in all of MMA at 170 pounds, Hardy knows the heat is on.

"I've kind of put myself in a situation and mindset where I'm fighting for my job and, you know, that's the worst place that I could possibly be in for my opponent because they're going to get everything that I've got a little bit more," said Hardy.

Aside from not wanting to look like an out-of-touch blowhard coming off an bad knockout loss, Hardy didn't think Johnson was the right guy to try and rattle with a barrage of prefight trash talk.

"You know, one, myself and Anthony are friendly and we've always gotten along well. So there was no point in fabricating something because, you know, the fans just see through that kind of thing. So it was just, you know, I don't want to waste my energy doing that," Hardy said. "And the second thing is, you know, Anthony never bites to that kind of stuff. He's a pretty chilled guy. So, you know, I've just invested the energy into the training camp instead and, you know, I'll just do my talking on Saturday night."

Johnson (8-3, 5-3 UFC) is the perfect opponent for Hardy. He loves to stand and bang. The 26-year-old from Georgia is not a great wrestler and rarely looks for the takedown.

He's also coming off a 16-month layoff where he battled a ton of injuries. Johnson injured his knee three years ago and said he tried to fight through it, but kept doing more damage. He finally had it operated on last April. Johnson admits that he gained a ton of weight during the down time. He's been back in the gym since the summer, but how likely is it Johnson is at his best? This is a must-win fight for Hardy.

UFC Fight Night 24: Amir Sadollah Beats Up DaMarques Johnson

by Michael David SmithIn what may have been his most impressive performance in the Octagon to date, former Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah put a serious hurting on DaMarques Johnson at UFC Fight Night 24 on Saturday night, forcing him to tap out as he rained down vicious elbows on the ground in the second round.

Sadollah showed off precision punching in the stand-up, some good takedowns and a killer instinct when he had Johnson in trouble in the second round. It was a great showing for Sadollah, although Sadollah made a point to credit Johnson for taking the fight on short notice.

"I want to say a huge, huge thank you to DeMarques," Sadollah said afterward. "He took this fight on two weeks' notice, which a lot of guys wouldn't have done. I have a lot of respect for him."

Friends no more: Evans accepts immediate title shot against Jones

UFC president Dana White has long believed friendships can't get in the way of fighting goals.

Rashad Evans must agree. Just a few minutes after Jon Jones crushed Mauricio "Shogun" Rua to take the UFC light heavyweight title, Evans climbed into the Octagon and accepted the next shot at the young star.

The big issue? Generally, fighters from the same training camp, don't want to fight each other. Evans and Jones both work with trainer Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, NM.

When Evans was mentioned by UFC analyst Joe Rogan and then showed in the Octagon on the big screens around The Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., the crowd booed loudly.

That show of anger paled in comparison to the look on Jones' face. The introduction of Evans in the cage seemed to rain on Jones' parade a bit. He got just a few seconds to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work and then had to deal with the emotion of facing a training partner sometime later this year.

"We are teammates. I've sparred with him and he's sparred with me," Jones said as his voiced cracked. "This my dream and this is everything I believe in. And I know God wouldn't lead me this far, to leave me, so I gotta do exactly what I have to do."

Evans, nattily attired in a suit, walked to the microphone with a smirk on his face.

"I guess you should never say never," joked Evans.

Before UFC 128, with the possibility of Jones winning the title, Evans and his younger training partner agreed they wouldn't fight. That all changed in the last 10 days when Jones said he was tired of answering questions about Evans and suggested his training partner wasn't in his corner.

"[...] Rashad is not in my mind, he's not in my being, he has absolutely zero to do with my heart and who I am right now," Jones said during the UFC 128 prefight press conference. "[...] I have a lot of people outside of Rashad who I can draw energy and power from and they'll all be with me."

That opened the door for a fight in the future. Evans responded by saying Jones was being childish.

"That does sound a little bit cold-blooded. Jon's a young guy and when you're a young guy sometimes you talk a little too fast for your brain to keep up. I don't think it's acceptable at all. I don't think it's something I'd say.It sounds like he wants to fight, huh? Those sound like fighting words," Evans told Larry Pepe of Pro MMA Radio. ".[...] Sometimes when you open your mouth you show what you're afraid of more than anything. I don't know why he has such an adverse response like that to me. I've never challenged him or made him feel like he should do that sort of thing. It sounds to me ? if I was out of the situation ? that he was feeling insecure about me. You can't just expect to not talk about a situation where you stepped in for a friend and training partner in a title fight who was injured. You can't take it personal… That sounds like a baby."

Tonight, Evans confirmed the belt trumps the friendship.

"We train together and you got that strap, so I gotta go after it," Evans said as the crowd booed.

Evans was originally scheduled to fight Rua at UFC 128, but suffered a knee injury just before Jones' fight at UFC 126 in early February. The UFC, faced with no one elite to challenged Rua six weeks later, turned to the raw Jones. It sounds like Evans believes Jones cut in front of him. When Jones first joined the Jackson's camp, Evans was told a head-to-head fight would never be an issue. Things have changed.

Now the question is, who leaves the camp?

Jones only began training with Jackson in 2010. Evans is one of the camp's original high-level members dating back to 2005. In that Pepe interview before the fight, it sounded like Evans had already made up his mind and will be working with Grudge Training Center in Denver if he had to face Jones.

It sets up an intriguing matchup from a mental and physical standpoint.

Evans has to know the champ's game as well as anyone in the division. At 32 years old, he may also be better equipped to handle the emotional side of the fight. That said, Jones, 23, didn't look one bit nervous last night in the biggest fight of his life. Evans also has the gift of gab. He's got a real knack for getting under the skin of his opponents.

Sanchez questions Kampmann’s wish for a rematch

After Diego Sanchez took a controversial decision from Martin Kampmann at UFC on Versus 3, Kampmann discussed why he thought that he won and the lure of a rematch.

"I would love to rematch Diego," Kampmann answered when asked about another opportunity to face Sanchez. "I feel I won the first time but I would love to fight him again. If I was him I wouldn't want the rematch either because imagine how his face would look after the second fight. I would love to beat him up one more time and hopefully not leave it up to the judges this time."

With a decision that close, an instant rematch wouldn't be unprecedented. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was awarded a rematch with Lyoto Machida after Shogun lost their first title bout, and the same courtesy was awarded to B.J. Penn after he lost a close bout to Frankie Edgar.

But Sanchez is having none of that. On Twitter, he made it quite clear that Kampmann has no business getting a rematch.

"You really want a direct rematch? I trained no boxing! zero! I just wrestled my [expletive] off. I underestimated your [takedown] defense and had to resort to my streetfighting loco skills and almost dropped you I seen your legs. I was not in my best shape ... like @danawhite said that was the softest he ever seen me. That's 2 L's in a row you need a win real bad."

Then, after saying all that, he adds, "If I can't get a better fight that a win would move me up the ladder, I would love to fight you again! #Realtalk."

Oh, Diego, you crazy, crazy man. Your lunacy is what endears you to fans, even when you're spouting off complete nonsense. Did you see your face after the fight? Are you absolutely positive, without a shadow of a doubt that you won? And pulling out the "I was not in my best shape" defense is a little ridiculous, considering that you won.

Instead of Twitter-fights, you two should really just settle this in the cage. Oh wait, that would still be a rematch.

MMA Top 10 Bantamweights: Cruz, Faber on a Collision Course

by Michael David SmithThe two best 135-pound fighters in the world will square off some time later this year for the first ever UFC bantamweight title match in what should be a great showcase for what has quietly become one of the UFC's most talented weight classes.

Before the UFC absorbed World Extreme Cagefighting, the smaller guys were largely overlooked by casual MMA fans. But now that the UFC has added the WEC's bantamweights -- and also snapped up some 135-pounders from other promotions -- the bantamweight class is stacked. In fact, as I put together my latest ranking of the Top 10 bantamweights in mixed martial arts, all 10 of them are now under contract to the UFC.

The top two, as you probably suspect, are bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and the only man to defeat him, Urijah Faber. Those two will square off at UFC 132. But the rest of the bantamweight division includes several talented fighters who could become worthy challengers to the bantamweight title in the years ahead.

Video analysis: Can ‘Korean Zombie’ vs. Garcia II match the first fight?

Fans never lose when Leonard Garcia steps into the cage. The kid goes for broke. He's willing to take a beating to dole one out.

In highly anticipated rematch, Garcia was scheduled to face Nam Phan at Ultimate Fight Night 24. Phan went down with an injury and the UFC put together an even better fight - Garcia and Chan Sung Jung will go at it again. Their first fight at WEC 48, short on strategy but big on haymakers, was one of the best in recent MMA history.

Is there anyway Garcia and "The Korean Zombie" can come close to their first war?

Yahoo!'s lead MMA writer Kevin Iole joined us to break down the fight and tell us why some rematches fall short of expectations. We also talk about the important issue of scoring these fights and what judges look for. Garcia won the first fight, but many thought Zombie was the victor.

Chan Sung Jung Submits Leonard Garcia With a Twister

by Michael David Smith
In a rematch of one of the wildest, craziest slugfests in mixed martial arts history, Chan Sung Jung forced Leonard Garcia to tap out with just one second remaining in the second round of their fight Saturday at UFC Fight Night 24.

Although this fight wasn't quite the memorable battle that their first fight was, it was entertaining. And the result was more satisfying: In their last bout, Garcia won a highly questionable split decision. But this time around Jung took it out of the judges' hands, using a nifty twister submission on Garcia to secure the submission victory.

It was the first twister submission in UFC history.

Big smile, cool nickname not enough for ‘Bruce Leroy’; Semerzier cruises at UFN 24

The cute stuff may work on reality television, but Alex "Bruce Leroy" Cacares was badly outclassed by WEC veteran Mackens Semerzier. In what was probably a must-win situation, Semerzier steamrolled Bruce Leroy winning via rear-naked choke in just 3:18 at Ultimate Fight Night 24.

Semerzier (6-3, 1-0 UFC) scored three powerful takedowns. He got the first just 57 seconds into the fight. Cacares got up with 3:30 left in the first and hit the deck again with 3:18 left. The final time he went down with 2:40 left, started the beginning of the end.

Semerzier fell right into the mount position and starting pounding away. Bruce Leroy turned away from the strikes and gave his back. Semerzier flattened him and even when Cacares threatened to slip out the backdoor, the Marine was able to get him back down and finally apply the finishing choke.

Cacares, who came up with the "Bruce Leroy" moniker himself, was a villain of sorts during Season 12 of TUF. He ruffled the feathers of eventual finalist Michael Johnson and several other fights from the show.

Tonight, he walked to the cage with Taimak, the original "Bruce Leroy" from the 1985 movie "The Last Dragon."

Hathaway bests McCray at his own game

Kris McCray is a one-trick pony and tonight in Seattle he got schooled at his strength. John Hathaway outwrestled McCray, taking him down repeatedly throughout the fight. The young Brit got a split decision victory, 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28.

McCray never came close to threatening a finish. Hathaway did in the opening round with a nasty toe hold. The 23-year-old from Brighton, England worked and twisted McCray's foot for 45 seconds. McCray held out and fought on.

"I was real close. I heard a couple pops and creaks," said Hathaway.

With better cardio, Hathaway (15-1, 5-1 UFC) sealed the fight in the third. He simply did more, staying active when he had top control. It wasn't the most spectacular victory, but proved Hathaway, without much of a wrestling background, can grapple on a high level.

After posting a huge win over Diego Sanchez at UFC 114, Hathaway was upset by Mike Pyle back in October at UFC 120. Including the "TUF 11 Finale," McCray has now lost all three fights in his time with the UFC.

Busted up eye causes Madsen to lose his first to Russow

Mike Russow isn't the prettiest fighter, but the guy finds ways to win. The Chicago cop won another fight, this time by ending the unbeaten run of Jon Madsen. On the advice of the doctor, the referee stopped the fight before the beginning of the third round because Madsen's left eye was nearly closed. Russow (14-1, 3-0 UFC) got the victory via TKO.

That makes 2-of-3 fights with the promotion that he's won via KO or TKO. In his previous 11 wins, he scored nine of them by submission.

Russow said he caught Madsen (7-1, 3-1 UFC) with an overhand right in the second and that's what made the eye blow up.

What you need to know from the TUF debut

"I ain't here to make friends. I ain't here to win new fans. This is strictly business for me."

The first words out of Brock Lesnar's mouth in the debut of the 13th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" were in form of the most cliche of reality TV cliches. This bodes well for the season. Read on for a recap and spoilers from the first episode of ... "The Ultimate Fighter."

Good news of the day: The fighters were pleased to find out that they did not have to win a fight to make it into the house, as was the custom in the past few seasons. What has returned is the wildcard. Less than two minutes into the show, Dana White drops his first f-bomb, saying that the UFC wants guys who are bleepin' fighters.

Instead of the fights, the fighters are put through workouts to show off their skills for Lesnar and Junior dos Santos. Lesnar has his strength and conditioning guru check on the cardio of each fighter, while dos Santos explores the "international language of fight." Dos Santos points out that he is more concerned about the fight style of each competitor, while Lesnar is more concerned about cardio.

Standouts of the day: Brock is most impressed with Len Bentley, while Shamar Bailey and Ryan McGillivray catch Junior's eye.

Ugh, that sucks of the day: Myles Jury, who also stood out, hurt his knee in practice. While he says it's fine, I've been watching this show long enough to realize that this is a bad sign.

Picks of the day: Lesnar and dos Santos head to the office to make their picks, meaning that it won't be like gym class, where each fighter will go and stand with their team. I hope it's more like cheerleading tryouts, where you read from a list that's posted outside the gym. Some cry with happiness, some cry with sadness.

Nah, Dana White just reads the fighters name from a list. Lesnar gets first pick by virtue of a coin toss. In order of how they were picked, the teams are:

Lesnar:
Len Bentley
Charles Rader
Tony Ferguson
Clay Harvison
Myles Jury
Chris Cope
Nordin Asrih

Dos Santos:
Shamar Bailey
Ryan McGillivray
Javier Torres
Ramsey Nijem
Zach Davis
Mick Bowman
Keon Caldwell

Second biggest reality TV show cliche of the day: Let's explore the house and claim rooms! The teams break up by floor, with Lesnar's team upstairs and Team dos Santos downstairs. Somehow, I still have faith that hijinx will ensue.

Saw that coming from a mile away of the day: Myles Jury has a torn ACL, and the doctor won't let him fight. Lesnar is surprisingly supportive. Jury thinks he's going to stay around and learn from the coaches while he heals. Dana White bursts that bubble and sends him home, to be replaced by Chuck O'Neil and his fantastic Boston accent.

Fight pick of the week: Dos Santos gets first fight pick, and he puts his first pick, Shemar Bailey, against Lesnar's last, Nordin Asrih.

Finding religion of the day: In an interesting oddity of matchmaking, both fighters are deeply religious. Bailey is a preacher's son, while Asrih is a German Muslim who adheres to his religion's pillar of praying five times daily. Asrih says that he feels more focused after prayer.

Fight of the Day: Nordin Asrih (Team Lesnar) vs. Shamar Bailey (Team dos Santos)

Round 1: Bailey quickly uses his strength, wrestling. He takes Asrih down and moves to side control. Asrih gets back to his feet for a second, but Bailey brings it right back down. Bailey's wrestling is fantastic, but he seems content to get the pin. It takes him much too long to figure out that it's OK. He can throw punches. Near the end of the round, he lands some big elbows, but for as long as he had control, Bailey should have done much more damage.

Round 2: Asrih starts the round with a kick, slips and falls on the ground. Bailey jumps on top of him, gets full mount and pins Asrih. However, this not being a wrestling match, no one slaps the mat and he has to continue fighting. Asrih shows some flashes when he reverses Bailey and tries for a guillotine. But the round was Bailey's. In the final minute, he gets full mount and throws strikes.

All three judges score it for Bailey, and he says after the fight that his strategy worked because he didn't want to show off everything that he could do in his first bout on the show. In his parting shot to his team, Lesnar says, "Wrestling is powerful in this sport."

Darn straight, Brock. What did you think of the first episode?

Mei Yamaguchi Victorious in Pancrase's First Women's Main Event

TOKYO - Pancrase, the sport's second oldest promotion, broke new ground on Sunday night at Differ Ariake, as they finally held its first women's main event after 17 years of fights.

A hotly contested bout between one of the sport's best young stars in Mei "V.V Mei" Yamaguchi and fan-favorite "Windy" Tomomi Sunaba headlined Pancrase's first event since the devastating Tohoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Like long-time rival promotion Shooto, Pancrase held a charity auction for victims of the Tohoku earthquake with many of the major gyms in Japan contributing items. But while Shooto limped into its promotional return on Friday with a half-length, scaled-down event, Pancrase stormed back into action with a full-scale, well attended event.

Morecraft and McDonald start UFN 24 broadcast with wins

Christian Morecraft and Michael McDonald started off the UFC's Ultimate Fight Night 24 in Seattle with wins on Saturday night.

McDonald dominated his entire bout before ending in the second round with a submission. After clinching against the fence for what seemed forever, McCorkle finally accomplished a takedown. He gave up his leg which nearly resulted in a lock. Though McCorkle avoided the submission, he lost out on the dominant position and ate some elbows from Morecraft.

In the second, Morecraft started strong by landing a series of punches with McCorkle's back against the fence. He followed that with a takedown and ground and pound. Morecraft then made the mistake of kneeing McCorkle in the crotch, which gave McCorkle time to recover. That time didn't help, though, as McCorkle dove for a way-too-high shot. Morecraft grabbed McCorkle's neck, and squeezed tight for a standing guillotine. McCorkle passed out, giving Morecraft the win at 4:10 in the second round.

This was a good rebound for Morecraft, who lost his UFC debut to Stefan Struve. His record is now 7-1, while McCorkle's falls to 10-2. This is his second straight loss in the Octagon.

McDonald, Figueroa impress

After the heavyweights were in the cage, the UFC went to the other end of the spectrum with bantamweights. Michael McDonald and Edwin Figueroa then put on a show with a thrilling decision that ended with McDonald taking the decision, 30-27 on all three judges' cards.

The two started out furiously, throwing every strike a person could dream of. McDonald got the better of Figueroa, a Muay Thai specialist, landing several more strikes. He also showed good defense, ducking below what could have been a knockout kick from Figueroa. McDonald finished the round with one more big shot, dazing Figueroa as he headed back to his corner.

To start the second, Figueroa tried to land a headkick, but McDonald used it for a takedown. Figueroa rolled through for a kneebar, but wasn't able to finish and allowed McDonald to take his back. McDonald sunk in a rear naked choke, but then when that didn't work, he switched to an armbar then a triangle choke. After that, he slapped on a triangle choke/armbar combo. Somehow, Figueroa fought through every submission attempt, then took McDonald's back in the last 1o seconds of the round.

McDonald looked markedly slower by the beginning of the third round. Figueroa found his rhythm, landing punches and elbows until McDonald took him down. Figueroa reversed position, then moved to side control. After standing over McDonald and avoiding upkicks, Figueroa let the fight return to standing. McDonald brought it right back down with a takedown, and landed elbows as the final horn sounded.

Though Figueroa was the loser in the bout, he definitely won fans with his never-say-die attitude and the fact that he took the fight on just six days notice. His record falls to 7-1.

McDonald, who at 20 years old is the youngest fighter on the UFC roster, is now 12-1. Both fighters were making their UFC debuts, and definitely made an impression.

Coker interview: Strikeforce boss uncertain about Daley, Fedor and Barnett in the UFC

Scott Coker, the other guy in the UFC's purchase of Strikeforce, sat down for a lengthy interview with HDNet's Bas Rutten. Coker was grilled on many of the hot button issues that last Monday's conference call never hit on.

Rutten asked the Strikeforce CEO if he thinks fans will ever see Josh Barnett, Paul Daley or Fedor Emelianenko in the UFC. Coker said he didn't know (11:35 mark), but added that he hoped all three continued to fight with Strikeforce.

Other interesting points included:

Coker confirmed that the deal between Zuffa and SVSE came together quickly. He only informed Showtime of the sale one day before the news leaked on Mar. 12.

He denied the rumors that Josh Barnett will be removed from the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix and replaced by Shane Carwin.

The Strikeforce boss joked about his first meetings with the UFC brass talking about Zuffa's 25-person marketing and P.R. staff. He brought along his two employees in those positions (4:40 mark).

Coker is excited about the new resources behind Strikeforce and growth possibilities which include a goal of pay-per-view by the end of 2011.

Surprisingly, even with a roster of 150-plus fighters, Coker says "business as usual" also includes signing new fighters in the future (9:00 mark).

Read into it anyway you'd like - Coker was asked if the purchase by UFC was a good or bad day, he answered by it's a reality (9:30 mark).

Showtime got the call the day before the news leaked 11 days ago, but Coker still hasn't had a chance to speak with M-1 promotions, Fedor's management team (13:25 mark).

Hopefully, Coker is involved in the MMA business at the highest level for years to come. He's definitely an asset, who puts the fans first. He did an amazing job turning a regional promotion, which held its first big fight in Apr. of 2009, into something worth buying for an estimated $40 million less than two years later.

Phenom Jones blows away Rua to take light heavyweight title at UFC 128

The pace at which MMA is evolving is amazing and Jon Jones is full proof of that. Bigger, more athletic and harder working athletes are getting into the sport everyday. Jones, a good college wrestler from a family of football players, just completed a short three-year journey to take out one of the greats of MMA with relative ease.

Jones pummeled Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on the feet and ground for two and half rounds. The Brazilian couldn't take anymore and slumped to the canvas at the 2:37 mark of third round giving the UFC light heavyweight title to the 23-year-old Jones at UFC 128 in Newark, N.J.

"It feels go good. It's a testament that dreams do come true guys. They really can, believe in yourself," Jones told UFC analyst Joe Rogan following the victory. "It means a lot to me, but I know it also means I have a huge target on my back. And when you guys come to strike at me, I'm going to strike right back."

The 6-foot-4 Jones is really unlike any athlete the UFC has ever seen aside from former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar. He walks around at roughly 225 pounds, but his frame looks like it could easily carry 250 pounds. His football playing brothers are massive. Chandler, a defensive lineman at Syracuse, is 6-6, 251 and his older brother Arthur, is a 6-3, 313-pound tackle in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens.

The dwarfed Rua (19-5, 3-3 UFC) was in trouble from the opening seconds of the fight. A very well-rounded fighter, Rua looked like amateur in the clinch, on the ground and even standing up. Just 20 seconds in, the fighters clinched and Jones did what he's done to every previous opponent, he tossed Rua on his head like he was fighting a lightweight.

Anytime the fight was on the feet, Jones kept Rua at long distance and delivered a bevy of front, leg and body kicks. He was also devastating with his knees. Jones, who appears closer to 6-5 or 6-6, used his height to grab Rua's head on multiple occasions to deliver nasty knees to the body from a thai clinch.

By the end of the first round, Rua looked out of gassed and stunned. The onslaught continued in the second. Jones did damage with a nasty front kick and an inside leg kick with three minutes in the round. Amazingly, Rua, who's known for his kicks, hadn't thrown one the entire fight. Jones scored another takedown with 2:33 left in the round and showed great patience. He wore down Rua with forearm across his chin and grinding elbows across his face.

In the third, Jones got top control again when Rua made a desperate attempt at a leg lock. The Brazilian stayed out of trouble for a few seconds before Jones landed some nasty elbows. After getting abused on the ground for nearly a minute, Rua scrambled and as he tried to get to his feet, he got crushed by a knee to the body. He was hurt badly and immediately stumbled across the Octagon to put his back on the fence. Jones, possessing incredible killer instinct, threw a vicious body shot to Rua's right side. He went down in a heap. That was it. He had no more fight left in him.

UFC analyst Joe Rogan captured the scene by saying, "That ladies and gentlemen is the future and the present!" Rogan went on to say that Jones might be the greatest natural talent the sport has ever seen.

Rua, 29, was once the future of the sport. He shocked the world by winning the PRIDE 205-pound Grand Prix back in 2005. Shogun, just 23 at the time, wrecked a field filled with legendary fighters like Vitor Belfort, Alistair Overeem, Quinton Jackson, Dan Henderson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Ricardo Arona and Wanderlei Silva.

Don't Expect Coaching Confrontations on TUF 13

by Michael David SmithJunior dos SantosDuring the 12-season run of The Ultimate Fighter, many of the most memorable moments have involved the show's coaches. Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz wanted to kill one another. So did Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson. Josh Koscheck spent most of his time on the show trying to get under Georges St. Pierre's skin. Multiple coaches have broken the door that leads into the Ultimate Fighter gym.

But from the way Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos are talking, moments like those are going to be lacking on the 13th season of the show, which begins on Wednesday night. On a conference call to promote their show, Lesnar and dos Santos were nothing but respectful toward each other, and they indicated that they both prefer to save any negative energy they feel for each other until they fight in June.

Tompkins interview: Hard feelings in camps and no future with Belfort

MMA trainer is really no different than being a head coach in any other sport. Different fighters need to be handled differently and when there's a beef between teammates someone has to be the boss. Shawn Tompkins knows what Greg Jackson is going through right now. Jackson's Submissions Fighting appears to be splintering a bit over the Rashad Evans-Jon Jones fight.

At TapouT Las Vegas, Tompkins joined me to talk about camp politics. He was also forthcoming about one of his old students Vitor Belfort, saying he'll never work with the UFC middleweight title contender again.
